HEALTH & NUTRITION

Proper nutrition is a powerful good; people who are well nourished are more likely to be healthy, productive, and able to learn. Good nutrition benefits families, their communities and the world as a whole.

Health Promotion Model

Health promotion is emerging as a strong focus in the current health care system, both as a way to reduce the costs of medical treatment and as a way to increase community health.

As science has advanced, the risk factors for many medical problems have become known and the focus of health promotion and disease prevention is often on particular high-risk groups. These efforts typically target decreasing behaviors associated with contracting a disease or increasing the use of screening practices or healthy lifestyles.

Our Focus Areas

  1. Ending malnutrition in all its forms will drive sustainable development forward. This point needs to be emphasized more strongly in efforts to achieve and monitor the Sustainable Development Goals.
  2. A good circle of improved nutrition and sustainable development can be unleashed if action to address malnutrition in all its forms can be embedded within key development sectors.

Nutrition programs to improve reproductive health outcomes have focused mainly on Communities for example, by providing women and children. This emphasis has had only a limited impact on the prevalence of malnutrition in women and children the capabilities domain, which refers to basic human abilities as measured by education, health, and nutrition.
