FOOD SECURITY
FOOD SECURITY IN SOMALIA
DANDOR has been working with the remote communities of Puntland for over 20 years. In an effort to promote sustainable livelihoods in Puntland, DANDOR has closely monitored long-term factors leading to food security including the state of the environment (i.e. range lands), water supply, animal health, access to markets and levels of purchasing power.
The pastoral communities are not able to cover their basic food, medicine or water needs. As a result of the drought the number of salable animals has decreased and pastorals do not have the resources to buy the food they need from the market.
We will continue to address the immediate needs of those in food crisis through our humanitarian work, which is guided by the fundamental principles. And we will also work to reduce the vulnerability of Somalia communities through longer-term support to livelihoods and food security.
